When it comes to building a website, it is important to keep in mind who your target audience are and what they will want and need from your site. It is all too easy to get carried away and create a site based on your own personal preference rather than focusing on your customers.
Firstly, try and establish what your goals are. For example, it may be that you want someone to buy a product through your ecommerce site, or perhaps you would like them to fill in a contact form or request a brochure. You may have a number of different goals which you can rank in order of importance. Your main goal may be for them to purchase a product but then a secondary goal could be for them to sign up to your newsletter. Once you know what your goals are, you can then work backwards and check that your website makes it easy to complete those goals.
Sometimes you can be too close to a project to see what is and isn’t working, which is why it is a good idea to get a fresh set of eyes looking over it.
Thorough testing is needed on a regular basis to ensure that all the processes can be completed with ease.
