Be wary of computer scammers

Unfortunately computer scammers are on the increase. Some households receive multiple calls a week relating to issues with their PC or laptop that simply do not exist. A common call to receive is one stating that your computer has been infected by a virus. The company will usually state that they are calling from your internet provider or from Windows and will want to talk you through a process to allow them to clean it up for you.

They will often ask for access to your PC screen and get you to install software that allows them to take over control of your mouse. They can show you a made up list of infections found on your PC and then ask for you to pay a fee for them to sort it out or will access all of your private documents and even passwords.

To stay safe online, always have a valid anti virus installed and if you are in any doubt about a call that you get relating to PC issues hang up and take your computer in to a local repair store and ask them to check it for you.
